The Noosa Heads Coastal walking track takes in the classic surf spots of the Noosa World Surfing Reserve. From Noosa Main beach you’ll pass by First Point, Little Cove, the Boiling Pot, Tea Tree Bay and Granite Bay before reaching Hells Gates. From there you can continue down Alexandria Bay towards Sunshine beach, or do as we did and head back through the forest to Noosa.
The walk starts right at the end of Hastings Street and starts off on a fantastic wooden boardwalk out towards the National Park car park, before becoming more rugged as you get further out of town. The paths are all very well maintained, and it is a straightforward walk if you stay on the top path and don’t venture down some of the paths to the beaches.
Our walk around the Noosa Heads Coastal Track
When we first arrived in Noosa as part of a 4 week holiday to Australia in July we quickly adopted an ‘early to bed early to rise’ routine. With sunset at around 5:30 PM most people seem to be up and about early to make the most of their day.
We set off from our hotel at 0630 and took the route displayed below. We took it quite easy and it took us 2 hours 45 minutes to cover the 6.5 miles before we arrived back at the hotel for breakfast, before a day on the beach (attempting!) surfing.
Even at our early hour there were plenty of people around, including surfers catching the first waves of the morning; some having taken a very long walk barefoot walk with their boards to gain entry to their favourite break. There is no vehicular access to the beaches beyond the very popular national park car park.

Later that evening we returned back to one of the vantage points we’d spotted on the way to watch the sunset. This became something we all loved so much that it became part of the routine every day. See my article on how I captured the image below on one of those fantastic evenings.
